The Anambra State Police Command has said it will begin investigation into a video of one of its officers collecting bribe at a checkpoint within the state.
The investigation was ordered by the commissioner of Police in the state, CP Echeng Echeng, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed.
Recall that the video of the erring policeman collecting bribe from a commuter went viral recently, especially on the Anambra social media space.
Social media users have continued to knock the officer for the brazen and open collection of bribe, instead of trying to ensure that the bus driver being extorted from was free of criminality.
Reacting, the police boss said, “Our attention has been drawn to a trending video of a policeman seen collecting money from motorists plying a road suspected to be within 3-3 area in Onitsha.
“The Command wishes to describe this behaviour as unprofessional as he was seen instead of conducting a proper screening on vehicles at the checkpoint but was doing otherwise.

“The video has been sent to the DPO in the area, to identify the officer for internal sanction within the police act.”
Meanwhile, four persons have died in a road crash along the Lagos-Ibadan highway when a driver rammed his car into a moving truck while pressing phone.
The accident happened opposite Mountain Top University, around Rain Oil Petrol Station at the early hours of Saturday.
It involved a Lexus RX350 car with registration number, KTU738HM, and a Mack marked, T21024LA.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that a total of six male adults were involved; “two persons were unhurt while four were recorded dead from the crash.”
Florence Okpe, the FRSC spokesperson in Ogun, said: “The suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed, use of phone while driving, which led to loss of control on the part of the Lexus driver and he rammed into a moving truck.”
Okpe disclosed that the remains of the dead victims were deposited at the Real Divine Hospital morgue in Ibafo.
