Army to Establish War Gaming Centre for Improved Tactical Knowledge

The Nigerian Army has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of its War Gaming Centre in Abuja.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that the war gaming centre is aimed at improving the tactical knowledge of troops operationally in dealing with emerging security threats.

When completed, the Centre will train Nigerian Army personnel in tactical and strategic decision-making, test new tactics and strategies, and predict trends in future conflicts such as terrorism, and cyber insecurity among others

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Faruk Yahaya performed the groundbreaking ceremony at the Wargaming Centre at the Army War College Nigeria.

While noting that Wargaming will be an integral part and training facility for Army War College Nigeria, the COAS said that a professional wargame is used by military organizations for training and upgrading army officers and soldiers.

He stated that on completion, the project will provide an opportunity to test tactics and strategies ‘in a safe-to-fail environment, which will aid in understanding and improving decision making

Earlier, the Commandant Army War College Nigeria, Major General Bamidele Alabi noted that the wargaming Centre will be commissioned before the Graduation of AWCN Course 7/2023 in October.

Alabi also said the project includes the provision of elevators/lifts, electronic billboards, digital screens for lecture halls and syndicate rooms, cladding of AWCN Complex and ongoing renovation of the participants’ quarters, amongst several others.

He thanked the Army Chief for providing resources to give the College a facelift and to upgrade the IT facilities in the College Lecture Hall and Syndicate Rooms in line with international best practices

The Wargaming Centre is a multi-storey facility consisting of 3 floors, with 15 syndicate rooms, 3 wargaming halls, 4 stores, an office for the director, a press briefing hall, an ICT control centre and conveniences.

The Coordinator of the Wargaming Centre, Colonel M.C Akin-Ojo said, the AWCN Wargaming Centre is a child of necessity born in due season through the visionary leadership and magnanimous support of the COAS.

“The Centre when completed will serve as a one-stop shop for training, analytical and outreach wargames at the operational and strategic levels”, he said.

Army War College Nigeria also unveiled a project carried out by the Commandant Army War College Nigeria, Major General Bamidele Alabi which has digital information screens at the approaches to the College, lifts which have been installed both at the western and eastern wings of the college complex

Colonel Akin-Ojo also said smart screens in the TYB Hall, College Lecture Hall and Okunlola Hall as well as their associated interactive podiums. There are also smart screens and podiums in the syndicate rooms, as well as a command and hall of fame digital interactive boards installed at different points on the ground floor.
