Benue Labour Party Chairman Killed By Suspected Herdsmen

A Chairman of the Labour Party in Benue State, Mr. Nathaniel Ochoche, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.

It was learnt that the killer herders murdered the alongside four others at the weekend.

Until his death, Ochoche was the Edikwu Ward 2 Chairman of the party in Apa Local Government Area of the state.

His death was made known by the party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr. Tersoo Orbunde, in a statement he issued to newsmen in the state on Monday.

The statement read, “It is with rude shock that the Benue State Secretariat of the Labour party received the news of the gruesome murder of its Chairman in Edikwu Ward 2 in Apa LGA, Nathaniel Ochoche, who was ambushed and killed by armed Fulani militia.

“Until his death, Mr. Ochoche was a consummate party man who worked assiduously hard for the growth of his community, constituency and country both in words and works.”

He called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency, put up measures that would ensure a glorious end to the menace.

In another news, Hisbah Command in Borno State has shaved the hairs of a number of young men in the state.

The security outfit justified what some have described as rights violation, saying the haircut were done during the Eid celebration.

A statement on its Facebook page said its personnel carried out “the task of monitoring the interaction of young men and women.”

It noted that “army is determined to see that the young people come up with new and inappropriate habits during the prayer ceremony.”

Hisbah commander, Abdurrahaman Musa explained why the personnel carried out the action.

“We gave the children a haircut because the haircut on the children’s head is contrary to morals and morals and the culture of Borno State,” he said.
