Colleagues Protest Death Of Late Medical Doctor

Following the unfortunate death of Doctor Ovwaere Diaso, house officers at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island on Wednesday embarked on a protest to demand justice for the deceased.

The deceased fell to her death on August 1 after the faulty hospital elevator she had taken to pick up her food from a vendor fell from the 10th floor.

In a video shared on Twitter by a tweep, Omolyawoli, House officers could be seen marching outside the hospital building with placards that carry messages such as, “It could have been me and “The system is rigged against young doctors,” while they chanted: “All we are saying, give us justice.”

Diaso was said to be preparing for the completion of her housemanship in two weeks when the tragic incident happened.

Similarly, an 18-year-old girl has been reportedly raped and killed by yet to be identified criminal gangs in Taraba State.

The name of the victim was given as Wassa Joel Tuwa.

A family source, Ayuba Solomon Bissa, said the victim who hailed from Yorro Local Government Council of the State was gang-raped and murdered behind a mountain located in the State capital.

The victim, who according to Ayuba, left her family house in Jalingo to Lankaviri village last Saturday, was allegedly raped and subsequently killed by unknown persons.

The family source said, “my younger sister (Wassa), left our family house here along Bishop’s Coat Road, Jalingo, to the village in Lankavirir on Saturday where the murderers met her.”

Her remains, according to him, were discovered by a little boy.

“We did not see her until Sunday morning when a little boy who was hawking firewood discovered her dead body by the roadside and ran back to inform our parents of what he saw.

“Residents moved to the scene and discovered the lifeless body of my younger sister, Wassa.

“Following security advice, her corpse was later evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo.

“A doctor on duty confirmed to us that the victim was gang-raped before she was killed,” he lamented.

The family pleaded with security agencies to fish out those behind the brutal killing of the victim.

As of the time of filing this report, the police are yet to issue a statement on the incident.
