Court Jails Plateau Businessman For Buying Stolen Vehicle

A 36-year-old Plateau State-based businessman has been jailed by an Area Court in Jos, the state capital.

The convict, Paul Bitrus, was sentenced to three months imprisonment on Tuesday.

Magistrates Adam Sadiq and Hyacinth Dolnaan sentenced Bitrus for buying a stolen vehicle.

The court also issued the businessman an option of a N25,000 fine after he pleaded guilty to the allegations levelled against them.

Furthermore, the judge ruled that the convict should return the stolen can to the original owner.

According to the Magistrates, the judgment will serve as a warning to criminal elements that intend to carryout such deeds.

Prosecution counsel, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on November 15, 2022.

The case was reported at the Anglo-Jos Police station by one Onyekwere Churchill of Halogen Security Company, attached to Nasco Foods.

The prosecutor said the convict bought the vehicle for N18 million from Tardoo Tegbenda, who stole it.

The offence is punishable under the provisions of Section 302 of the Penal Code Law

Meanwhile,  four persons lost their lives in a lone ghastly accident along the busy Ondo/Ore highway in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday.

No fewer than 19 persons comprising 10 males adult, five females adult, two male kids and two female children, were involved in the fatal accident.

A Nissan bus that was not registered was involved in the collision, which happened at around 3:00 pm.

While confirming the occurrence, the commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ Ore Unit, Mr. Sikiru Alonge, stated that the driver’s lack of concentration was to blame for the collision.

“Out of the nineteen persons, eight persons were injured, comprising of six male adults and two female adults, while four persons died on the spot, comprising of two male adults and two female adults,” he said.
