Court Remands Pastor For Murder In Ondo

A 56-year-old pastor, identified as Emmanuel Adebayo, has been remanded in Olokuta Correctional Centre by a magistrates’ court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, for allegedly killing a 50-year-old woman, Toyin Olatunji.

The cleric, who pastored a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) was remanded on Thursday after the police arrested him in his residence, following the death of his tenant.

According to the prosecutor, Abdulateef Suliaman, the accused perpetrated the on the 4th of April 2023, at No.14 Moferere Street Owe-Akala, Akure, at about 3 pm.

Suliamon told the court that fight broke out between the landlord and his tenant and out of anger, the defendant unlawfully killed the woman by pushing her to the floor.

It was gathered that the deceased was immediately unconscious and later died.

Speaking further, the prosecutor stated that the offence contravenes Sections 310 and 316 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2006.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in correctional custody, pending the issuance of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.

Defence counsel, however, prayed the court for an adjournment to enable his client to file a counter affidavit to the application sought by the prosecutor.

Magistrate Tope Aladejana ordered the remand of the defendant in Olokuta Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till the 27th of April for ruling.
