Court sentences welder to death by hanging for setting wife ablaze

An Ondo State High Court has sentenced one Daniyan Ojo to death for killing his wife, Dorcas Daniyan.

In 2019, Ojo, the 50-year-old welder had not just killed her but also set the deceased ablaze.

It was gathered that before the incident happened, the victim and her husband had a disagreement over the purchase of a landed property by the victim.

This raised suspicion that the husband carried out the dastardly act.

Another source said a few hours before the incident, Daniyan brought home a keg of petrol; and that, some hours later, a fire started while he was in the room with the deceased.

After committing the offence, he was arrested by the men of the state police command and later arraigned before the court.

The trial had been on for three years with both the prosecuting and defence counsels before the court finally gave its judgment.

While delivering the judgement, Justice Adegboyega Adebusoye, held that the prosecution had proved the case against Ojo beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced him to death by hanging.
