In a bid to curb the spread of cult-related activities, the chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State, Samuel Nwanosike, has placed a ban on night operations of motorcyclists, popularly called okada riders.
The development was made known by the chairman’s press secretary, Chris Omodu, in a statement made available to newsmen.
Nwanosike noted that the ban will curb activities of the cult groups within the neighbouring Emohua Local Government Area.
He noted that the ban is effective from 7 pm to 6 am daily, while also charging security agencies to execute the order with immediate effect and without compromise.
Emohua LGA has been grappling with insecurity and has, since the 2023 general elections, become a den of criminals.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested 20 suspects over offences bordering on cybercrime.
