Female Pedestrian Killed By Hit-and-Run Driver

A pedestrian has been killed by a hit and run driver on Saturday in Lagos State.

This was made known by the Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, who said the victim was also mangled by high speeding vehicles and the body could not be identified.

Farinloye also disclosed that the agency has contacted the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) to help evacuate the mangled body from the highway to prevent further crushing by moving vehicles

Farinloye urged Nigerians to exercise utmost safety consciousness during the festive period.

He said the appeal became necessary due to the high number of deaths observed in the usual patrol during festive period along the major highways.

He said, “Just yesterday evening, an articulated truck, which had brake failure, hit a woman at Dalemo bus stop, Ado Odo/Ota LGA, Ogun State and she died on the spot.”

In another news, two persons have lost their lives after a fuel-laden tanker exploded on the Abakaliki–Onueke-Afikpo Expressway.

Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Mr Igwe Nnabuife, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Saturday, in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

Nnabuife said that the truck, which was carrying Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, known as petrol, caught fire on Friday around 8: 220 pmat the airport junction axis of the highway.

“One vehicle was involved. We have not been able to identify the registration number because the vehicle was burnt beyond recognition.

“On fatality, two persons were killed while one was seriously injured. The dead ones have been taken to Alex-Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

“The injured person was taken to Onueke General Hospital, Ezza-South Local Government Area of Ebonyi,” the Sector Commander told newsmen in the state.
