Former Deputy Governor: Kidnappers demand N70 million ransom

Abductors of the former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa state, Professor Onje Gye Wado have demanded N70 million naira ransom.

Nigeriacrime.com gathered that the kidnapper’s demand is coming less than 24 hours after he was abducted by gunmen.

A family source who is monitoring the developments disclosed that the kidnappers placed a call for the first time since the abduction of professor Onje Gye Wado demanding N70 million ransom for the release of the abductees.

It would be recalled that Professor Onje Gye-Wado, was kidnapped Thursday night in Rinz village of Wamba local government area by unknown gunmen.

The source said “The kidnappers are in touch with the family of Prof and they have demanded the sum of N70 million naira, while the family offered N2 million naira.

Available information obtained indicates that the family is pleading with the abductors to accept the two million because they can not raise anything more than the two million due to the public holidays declared by the federal government for the Easter celebration.

“Today Friday, till Monday, is a public holiday, there is nowhere we can get money and we want him (Prof), back alive,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the Nasarawa state command of the Nigeria Police has confirmed the abduction of the former Deputy Governor with an assurance by the Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Baba that Prof. Onje Gye-wado would be rescued safely as the command intensifies search and Rescue operations.

CP Maiyaki Baba has reassured the general public, especially the family of Prof Onje Gye-wado that effort is ongoing to rescue the victim who was abducted by yet to be Identified hoodlums in the early hours of Saturday, as Police tactical operatives have intensified search and rescue operation.

“Information received by the command indicated that on 7/4/2023 at about 12:30 am, unknown gunmen invaded Gwagi village in Wamba LGA, broke into the residence of one Prof. Onje Gye-wado and abducted him to an unknown destination.

Upon receipt of the information, Police operatives attached to Wamba Division swiftly moved to the scene, but the abductors had fled with the victim before the police arrival”, the police said

According to the command Public Relations Officer, DSP, Ramham Nansel, the Commissioner has called on anyone with useful information that will lead to the rescue of the former Deputy Governor to contact the following telephone numbers: 09115629178, 09067877096, 08112692680 and 08104441179.
