Irregularities: Five Filling Stations Shut Down

No fewer than five five filling stations have been shut down by the Jigawa State Task Force on Petroleum products for tampering with their metres and engaging in some activities to shortchange customers.

This development was made known by the Taskforce Chairman, Colonel Muhammad Alhassan (Rtd), while briefing newsmen after inspecting some filling stations at Kiyawa, Gumel, and Jahun local government areas of the state.

According to the chairman, the agency went out in order to supervise the filling stations to ensure they abide by the laid down rules.

More than thirty filling stations were warned by the Taskforce while it shut down five for engaging in dubious activities.

“Some of the filling stations do not have Sarafin Gauge and do not have standard measuring gauge to enable them to know the functionality of their pumps,” he said.

He said the committee will continue to inspect other filling stations and expose any filling station found to be engaged in tampering with metres to shortchange customers.

He noted that no filling station would be spared if found wanting.

In another development, a commercial motorcyclist, Oghenekaro Araja, 47, was murdered over the weekend in Delta State.

Araja also worked as a correctional officer in the state before he was murdered in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state while using his motorcycle for transportation at the close of work.

He was attacked and killed close to the Ogume junction axis of the town, with the assailant also scaping with his motorcycle.

A source revealed that motorcycle snatchers operate in the area at night.

The Delta Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.

“It is suspected that it was a passenger that killed him. He hit him from behind and made away with his motorcycle. There was no injury,” he said.
