Journalists, INEC Officials Flee As Thugs Attack Abeokuta Polling Units

Some suspected political thugs have chased away journalists and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Ward 13 polling Unit 22, Itori Odo, Abeokuta South area of the state Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The journalists and electoral at the polling unit reportedly scampered for safety.

The political thugs were said to have snatched the two ballot boxes at the unit and destroyed it, despite the efforts of an armless NSCDC officer to rescue the electoral materials.

It was gathered that an agent of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) had warned a journalists to stop taking pictures at the unit, which later led to the attack.

NIGERIACRIME learnt that one of the APC agents told the journalists that they were instructed not to allow anybody take pictures or record videos at the unit.

All efforts to convince the agent fell on his deaf ears.

One of the thugs, which was identified by voters at the polling unit as Taiwo, was said to have attacked the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) who also tried to intervene.

Taiwo poured dry gin on the face of the ADC agent, before other thugs surfaced from different corners with axes and attacked the INEC officials and materials.

Information gathered revealed that APC has never won the unit but PDP.

It was also gathered that a son of the community, Oluseyi Funmi, is also contesting for State House of Assembly under the umbrella of Action Alliance.
