Kaduna Govt Confirms Escape Of Eight Abducted Students

No fewer than eight female students of Government Secondary School, Awon, Kaduna State, have escaped from the terrorists’ den, the state government confirmed.

The female students were kidnapped on Monday, April 3, 2023, by the terrorists in the Awon General Area of Kachia Local Government Area of the state.

The development was by the Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement made available to journalists.

The students escaped from a thick forest around Kaduna-Niger, the commissioner disclosed.

He said the students walked in the forest for days before surfacing at an undisclosed location, as security operatives were immediately contacted for evacuation.

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was said to have immediately direct the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to liaise with the 1 Division Nigerian Army in order to urgently evacuate the survivors to Kaduna Metropolis.

It was learnt that the terrorists were combing forests in the area to recapture the students.

The commissioner confirmed that the students are currently receiving treatment at a military facility where they were safely evacuated to.

The governor, according to Aruwan, praised the students for demonstrating sheer courage and resilience in making their escape from captivity.

Aruwan said the Governor admonished them to view the horrific experience as a turning point, and pursue their education with renewed vigour for a purposeful future, just as he commended the General Officer Commanding, 1 Division, Major General OT Akinjobi for the prompt evacuation and the ongoing medicals being conducted on the students.
