A policeman, Kabiru Odeyemi, has been dismissed over the shooting of a 24-year-old generator repairer, Idris Bakare, in Lagos State.
Confirming this on Twitter late Wednesday, the Lagos State Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, wrote, “The recommendation for the dismissal of Inspector Kabiru Odeyemi was approved today. This paves the way for his arraignment which will take place on Friday, July 7, 2023.
“The Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, assures Lagosians of his unwavering determination to police the state within the dictates of the rule of law, civility and respect for human life.”
Bakare, while returning to his house on No 4, Baale Street, Oregun, in the Ikeja area of the state, was hit by a policeman’s bullet and subsequently died at a clinic in the state.
It was learnt that some people were fighting on Oregun Road when Odeyemi alongside some policemen stormed the scene.
In the process, Odeyemi reportedly shot Bakare, who succumbed to the injuries he sustained during the attack.

In another development, a 58-year-old female pilgrim, Hadiza Ismai’il, has passed away while performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
Ismai’il, who died on Monday around 3:15pm Saudi Arabia local time following a brief illness, was from the Madobi Local Government Area of Kano State.
She was said to be down with a fever and was rushed to the NAHCON hospital for treatment but was transferred to King Abdulaziz Hospital, Mecca, where she was certified dead.
Ismai’iI had since been buried in Mecca after a funeral prayer in Ka’aba Mosque.
The Director-General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Laminu Danbappa, confirmed the development.
Danbappa, on behalf of the Kano State Governor, Engineer Abba Yusuf, while condoling with the family of the deceased, prayed to Almighty Allah to grant her eternal rest, as well as to grant the family members the fortitude to bear the loss.
