Lagos Police Post Set Ablaze

A police post located on Olayiwola Close, in the Oregun area of Ikeja, Lagos State, has been set ablaze by some angry youths.

NIGERIACRIME learnt that the youths, who attacked the police post in the early hours of Monday also injured a policeman on duty.

The motive for carrying out the attack is unknown as of the time of filing this report.

The injured officer was said to have sustained an injury in the head and was immediately taken to the emergency centre at the toll gate along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway for prompt treatment.

The was put out by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service, who were contacted by some members of the public to salvage the situation.

Although part of the building was damaged before the fire was put out, NIGERIACRIME gathered that no weapon was stolen during the attack.

Confirming the attack, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, when contacted, said an investigation into the case had commenced, adding that “no suspect had been arrested.”

In another development, the Kano State Security Council has declared phone snatching as an act of armed robbery and any individual or group caught in the act will be treated as such .

The outgoing Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Sunday.

He said the council, which was presided over by the outgoing governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, during its valedictory session, noted that perpetration of the act in recent times has reached a worrisome proportion and therefore needs drastic measures.

Garba also stated that the council has agreed to put in place a special squad within the security system to deal with the menace and other acts of criminality in the state.
