Lagos police raids criminal hideout, arrest 303 suspects

In a conscious effort to curb the illegal seizures of phones within the state metropolis, the commission of police CP Adegoke Fayoade has ordered the immediate prosecution of 303 suspects arrested during weekend raids of criminal hideouts.

Nigeriactime.com learned that the arrest was made after CP Fayoade gave a marching order to DPOs.

Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, said the police received with concern reports that young men in certain parts of Lagos State seize passersby’s phones to extort them despite the sustained raids being carried out by officers and men of the Command.”

CP Fayoade has, therefore, directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), especially in identified areas to redouble security architecture and enhance their neighbourhood and foot patrol within their areas of responsibility (AORs) to tackle this emerging menace.”

“He gave this charge during an early morning meeting with all Area/Squadron/Tactical Commanders and DPOs on Monday, April 8, 2024.”

The CP has further warned that any officer in whose AOR such an incident occurs again would be severely sanctioned, assuring that the Command remains unrelenting in its resolve and determination to continue to stamp out, and make the public space hot for criminal elements.”

The Lagos State Police Command uses this opportunity to commend everyone who brought this menace to the notice of relevant authorities and further encourages all Lagosians to continue to say something when they see something.

Meanwhile, CP Fayoade has ordered the immediate prosecution of 303 suspects arrested over the weekend during raids across the state, after a careful screening process. The raids were carried out by Area Commanders, DPOs and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

In a related development, four suspected armed robbers involved in robbing a victim in Igbolomu, Ikorodu area of Lagos are currently been investigated by the Lagos State Police command.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that two of the suspects were arrested following a report by a victim who was robbed at gunpoint last year October.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of Lagos State Police Command SP Benjamin Hundeyin said: “Last year on 10 October 2023 a victim named with held reported that he was robbed at Igbolomu in Ikorodu area of Lagos by a gang of armed robbers who pointed a gun at him and collected gold chain, pendant and hand chain valued N3,429,350.00 alongside his Samsung Galaxy s12 mobile phone valued N280,000.00. two scalers valued #N4,000.00, a power bank and a cash sum of 200 US dollars.”

Hundeyin explained that two suspected armed robbers were tracked and arrested in Igbolomu area of Ikorodu last week based on their confession on April 1, 2024, at about 1 am Oluwatimilenyi Sunday aged 32 years a driver working with a Newspaper company claiming to be Photographer Director Of Production was arrested in his house.

“He confessed to have participated in the robbery attack on the complainant and that they sold the gold at the rate of N2,200,000.00 out of which he got N400,000.00 as his share. He said further that the gun used is presently in possession of one Alhajil who he claimed is presently in prison custody over another offence”, added.

Meanwhile, others arrested earlier are one Chikwendu Jerry aged 24 years (gang leader) Stanley Ayukor aged 38 years. All the suspects confessed to the crime and are presently helping the police in further investigation. Above for you information.
