Lagos Woman Docked For Abducting Two Siblings

The police in Lagos has dragged a 38-year-old woman, Mohammed Abu, before the Ogba Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State, over allegation that she abducted two siblings.

It was gathered that the suspect, who appeared before Magistrate E. Kubenje on April 27, 2023, committed the offence in the Alakuko area of Lagos State.

The victims were identified as Juliana and Joy Jude.

Abu is facing one-count bordering on abduction for allegedly luring the two children to her house in the New Abule area of Ogun State.

According to the police prosecutor, Superintendent of Police, Kehinde Ajayi, the defendant committed the offence on April 21, 2023.

The charge read, “That you, Muhammed Abu, on April 21, 2023, around 10pm at No. 9, Alhaji Afolabi Street, Ajegunle, Alakuko, Lagos State, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did adopt the children of one Madam Jude, Juliana, 11, and Joy, four, to your house at New Abule area of Ogun State, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 277 (1a and b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum, noting that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must present tax clearance.

The case was adjourned till May 30, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that 13 persons lost their lives while ten others sustained various degrees of injuries in the tanker explosion in Jos North LGA.

The Command also said 28 shops, eight cars, six tricycles and two motorcycles were destroyed in the incident.

The Police, through its Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, confirmed the figures to journalists in Jos, the state capital, on Friday.

According to him, “On the 27th April, 2023, at about 13:30 hours, a fatal motor truck accident occurred at the Bauchi Road junction where a tanker truck loaded with petroleum product lost brake control and went on flames.

“As a result, burnt down twenty-eight shops, eight motor cars, six tricycles and two motorcycles.”

He further explained that “Thirteen unidentified persons were burnt beyond recognition, which is an increase of what was reported in our earlier release.

“The corpses have been buried by JNI according to Islamic rites while ten injured persons were taken to various hospitals for medical attention.

“Further developments also revealed that an angry mob in their hundreds attacked the FRSC staff and burned down their operational vehicle with Reg No. AO1 783 RS, in the course of which one of the FRSC staff sustained injuries on his forehead.”
