Monarch, driver abducted by gunmen in Kwara

The traditional ruler of Owa Onire, the Onire of Owa-Onire in Isin local government area of Kwara state, HRH Abdulrahaman Ifabiyi has been kidnapped by gunmen.

The monarch Abdulrahaman Ifabiyi was abducted alongside his driver at gunpoint while returning from a social function in Kwara state.

Unknown to the monarch and his entourage, who were inside the Lexus Jeep 300, the kidnappers laid ambush on the road for them and stopped the Jeep at gunpoint.

NigeriaCrime.com gathered that the traditional ruler’s wife was also kidnapped before she was rescued by police, during which two of the suspected kidnappers were arrested.

The kidnappers have been operating in the area for a long period but the vigilante of the town has been resisting their dastardly act.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi said that, the men of the command in conjunction with the vigilante of the town have arrested two persons in connection with the incident.

He also said that the wife of the monarch has been rescued while efforts are ongoing to rescue the royal father and the driver.

Explaining further, Okasanmi said, “on Saturday information was received by the police Command to the effect that the traditional ruler of Owa Onire a rusty town in Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State, his wife and driver were abducted by unknown armed men.

“Police tactical teams with vigilante and hunters were immediately dispatched to the area by the commissioner of police, CP Paul Odama with an order to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators.

“The efforts of the teams led to the rescue of the abducted wife of the traditional ruler while two of the suspects involved in the kidnap by name Bello Abubakr and Bawa Seketri were arrested and helped the Command in her investigation.

“Efforts to rescue the traditional ruler and his driver are still ongoing while the rescued wife has been released to join her family,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Paul Odama has dispatched teams of investigators, joined by Vigilante to rescue the monarch and others still in the captivity of the kidnappers.
