N200,000 Bills: Ogun Nursing Mothers, Newborn Twins Detained By Hospital

Some nursing mothers have been detained by the management of a private hospital, Besh Medical Centre, located along Ososun Road, Abekoko in Ifo, Ogun State over the non-payment of their medical bills.

According to reports obtained by NIGERIACRIME, the affected nursing mothers are owing the hospital over N200,000.

Also, the management of the hospital was said to have held the patients’ newborn babies hostage over the medical debts.

In a now-viral video, the affected patients were lamenting what they tagged as an ill-treatment meted on them during their stay in the hospital.

Narrating their ordeal, one of the nursing mothers, who gave her name as Aminat, said she was charged N300,000 but was able to pay N110,000.

She, however, alleged that the hospital abandoned her and her newborn babies for more than an hour and a half without providing them with adequate medical care.

“I gave birth on November 2 and there was no money. I was billed for N300,000 and we have paid N110,00. We have spent one and a half months. I did not receive any good treatment and it is God that is feeding me. It is because of the remaining money. Nothing is happening to me. My body is okay and healthy now,” she said.

“I gave birth on October 15 and we were billed N300,000 and we have paid N80,000. They did (Caesarian section) operation for me and I gave birth to twins and I have been here since 15th of the last month. They (my children) have not been eating. My children and I have been managing to sleep on a day,” another woman identified as Azeezah Rasheedah.

In response to the allegations, the Besh Medical Centre’s management denied that the hospital detained the patients as claimed.

The hospital management noted that the patients were admitted to the hospital for a longer period of time due to some “wounds.”

“The MD (Medical Director) has called that we should set them free. They have gone today (Friday). We normally do that every year. We don’t allow patients to spend Christmas here. Nobody holds them in hostage,” an official of the hospital said.
