Naira Scarcity: Angry Protesters Cart Away Sagamu LGA Mace

Angry protesters showing their dissatisfaction over the Naira scarcity have reportedly invaded the Sagamu Local Government secretariat in Sagamu, and carted away the mace of the council’s legislative house.

According to reports reaching NIGERIACRIME, the protesters, mostly youths, had in the early hours of Monday, staged a protest in front of the palace of the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, due to the frustration of getting the newly redesigned naira notes.

It was learnt that some of the protesters barricaded roads and set bonfire to show their displeasure.

The protest, however, took another dimension when the angry youths burnt two commercial banks in the town — Keystone and Union.

In his reaction, a youth leader in the town, Kayode Segun-Okeowo condemned the development.

Oke-Owo  described the act as a “motivated  destruction and not a protest.”

“This is not a protest. I’m a comrade and understand the ABC of protest. It’s motivated to cause destruction.

“Those behind this must be stopped.”

Furthermore, the protesters marched to the council secretariat, invaded offices and carted away the mace.

It was learnt that during the incident, they also shattered windows and broke doors at the secretariat.

Confirming the development, the council chairman, Afolabi Odulate, said, “Yes, they did invade the secretariat. No one was attacked. We had moved workers away before they arrived here.

“They stole the mace. Yes, they did.”

He, however, said normalcy had returned as police and soldiers had taken the community.
