There was tension in the Mulo community in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State as the village head, Mallam Usman Garba, was allegedly killed in the custody of his kidnappers.
Recall that Garba and three other members of the community were kidnapped by the armed men on Thursday.
The terrorists had reportedly killed the village head a few kilometers away from the scene of the crime and discarded his corpse, while moving on with their journey.
The incident was confirmed by the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Services, Emmanuel Bagna Umar during a security briefing with journalists on Friday.

Umar lamented the gruesome murder of the village head, while also explaining that some ugly incidents like the murder of the village head still happen in the state even though the security situation in Niger has improved.
Umar disclosed that the state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has directed all security agencies to come out in full force to flush out the terrorists and completely eradicate the security challenges in three LGs.
The Commissioner also assured the residents of the state of a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration, noting that the security agencies would increase patrol and visibility to tackle any attack or terror incident.
“We are providing a call number for communities and residents. If there is any movement or sighting of any act of terror or any criminals, the communities should dial 07031964389.”
He, however, called on communities to liaise with the security apparatus around them their areas by drawing their attention to anything that will lead to a threat to the lives of the people.
