Ogun Hospital Drags Father, Son To Court For Slapping Doctor

The Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta has dragged a man, Ayodele Falomo, 56, and his son, Ayoola Falomo, 23, to court for allegedly assaulting a doctor, Pelumi Somorin.

It was gathered that the duo beat up that doctor, who works with the hospital, over the death of a family member who died in the hospital.

They were brought before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court by the Ogun State Police Command.

It was said that Ayodele and his son slapped Dr Somorin repeatedly a few moments after they lost a female relative to heart failure.

The defendants were arraigned on two counts of conspiracy and assault, which they pleaded not guilty to.

According to the prosecution counsel, Inspector Olaide Rawlings, Ayodele and Ayoola committed the offenses on December 20 at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

He said the deceased patient was the wife of Ayodele and mother to Ayoola.

Rawlings told the court that the defendants attacked Somorin while accusing her of causing the death of their family member.

She said the offence contravened sections 516 and 355 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Both father and son insisted that the doctor killed their family member due to negligence.

They said they were enraged by the alleged non-challance of the doctor, adding that she was pressing her phone while the deceased was groaning with pain.

Also corroborating his father, Ayoola said he threatened to take the picture of the doctor and post it on the Internet.

According to him, she dragged the phone with him to stop him from taking her picture.

Meanwhile, during the court sitting, the Magistrate, I.O. Abudu, gave the parties a chance to resolve the matter amicably.

The defendants, however, informed the court that they had written an apology letter to the management of the hospital, the police and the state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association.

Magistrate Abudu, while mediating in the matter, said the apology letter showed that the defendants were remorseful.

Abudu thereafter admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

She adjourned the case until February 16, 2023, for mention.
