Ogun: Student Loses School Fees To Betting, Commits Suicide

There was tension in the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State, as a student, identified as Samuel Adegoke, ended his life after he gambled with his school fees and lost on Friday.

NIGERIACRIME learnt that Adegoke drank a poisonous chemical substance after losing his fees and that of his friend to an online betting.

The National Diploma II student of Electrical Electronic Engineering was said to have ended his life when his colleagues were preparing for their first-semester exam on Monday.

The school had reportedly warned students who were owing to pay their fees or risk missing their examination.

Adegoke was reportedly rushed to the school clinic where he was later referred to a specialist hospital outside the school in Ilaro before he was pronounced dead.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Deputy Registrar, Public Relations of the school, Sola Abiala said the school quickly referred him to a specialist hospital to save his life but he was pronounced dead shortly after he was admitted to the hospital.

Abiala stated that, “He died on Monday morning while the exam was about to start.”

The Deputy Registrar said it was detected at the specialist hospital that the late student took a chemical substance.

In another news, some intending pilgrims travelling in an 18-seater bus from Nasarawa State to Abuja for airlifting to Saudi Arabia on Thursday for the 2023 Hajj were reportedly involved in an accident.

It was learnt from a reliable source that the accident happened on Wednesday around Kara, Keffi Local Government Area of the state.

Details of the casualties from the accident are sketchy at the time of filing this report, as the Nasarawa Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) failed to pick up his calls for confirmation.
