Ogun: Tension As “Madman” Beheads Octogenarian

The police in Ogun State have killed a 32-year-old man, David Shodola, who was suspected to be mentally ill for allegedly beheading an 84-year-old resident, Alfred Opadipe.

The incident reportedly threw Ipara town, Remo-North Local Government Area of the state into confusion.

NIGERIACRIME gathered the lunatic also ended up dead as he violently resisted arrest and attacked police officers with a machete.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omotola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a terse statement in Abeokuta on Friday.

Odutola said the command received a distress call from an informant on the matter as policemen, led by the Isara Divisional Police Officer, CSP Bankole Eluyeru, were deployed in the scene.

She said, “The Divisional Police Isara, CSP Bankole Eluyeru, made an attempt to arrest the suspect, but he used the machete on the DPO and his men. The police succeeded in neutralising the suspect and the weapon was recovered from him.”

The police spokesperson, however, asserted that there was “no recount of the suspect being a madman from the intelligence the police gathered.”

A nine-minute-and-eight-second video clip, which went viral late Friday, showed the lifeless body of the octogenarian on the ground with the head a few metres away.

Some residents were seen gathering at the scene to behold the gory incident.

In another news, troop of Operation Haderin Dajo deployed at Forward Operation Base, FOB, Faru, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State have neutralized four bandits in Bagabuzu community.

It was gathered that on receiving credible information, the troops mobilized to the scene and engaged the terrorists in a fierce battle which resulted in neutralizing the four bandits, while others escaped with various degrees of injuries.

The troops recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun, GPMG, one FN rifle and 123 rounds of special ammunition.

The General Officer Commanding 8 Division Sokoto/commander, Joint task force, Operation Haderin Dajo, Major General Mutkut commended the troops for their resilience, gallantry and sustaining the onslaught against the bandits.

He called on the public to give the troops of Operation Haderin Daji the maximum support through credible information.
