Policeman Allegedly Kills Rivers Man

An officer attached to the Police Mobile Force, 43 Squadron, Gombe State has been arrested by the police in Rivers State for allegedly killing one Olafuro Peterside.

NIGERIACRIME gathered that the deceased was shot and killed by the officer at a popular bar in Elekahia, Port Harcourt, in the local government area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred on a day Peterside and his family went out for fun.

It was gathered that the policeman responsible for the shooting was accompanied by another officer from the same squad, both of whom were on special duty in Rivers State at the time.

Confirming the incident, the Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that the accused officer has been arrested.

She also mentioned that Peterside was at the scene with his wife and three children when the incident happened.

Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, disclosed that the police officer fired his rifle into the air in response to an alarm raised by some individuals regarding a robbery incident in the area. Unfortunately, a stray bullet from the officer’s rifle struck and fatally injured Peterside, who was immediately rushed to a hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Command PRO assured the public that the investigation into the incident is currently underway.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old mentally-handicapped girl was on Saturday recovered dead from a domestic well in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The victim, identified as Hamudat of Ile-Kangu Compound, Pakata area of Ilorin, in llorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State, fell into a well but was recovered dead.

The spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunke, disclosed that the terrible incident took place at about 02:55PM.

He said, “The Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded to a rescue operation at Ile Kangu Compound, Pakata area, Ilorin, where Hamudat, said to be a mentally-handicapped 21-year-old lady, had fallen into a domestic well.

“The skilled firemen successfully recovered her and safely handed her over to her father, Alhaji Suleiman Issa,” he added.

The Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, advised the general public to prioritise safety, and to be more careful in their day-to-day activities.

He also cautioned against sending underage children to fetch water from domestic wells.
