Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command are currently investigating a prison escapee Festus Okoeguare and Nancinant Paul Joshua for vandalising electricity cable.
The duo were arrested on the 16th of July 2022 following information received by policemen at Ogbere Divisional Headquarters that some hoodlums have vandalised the power installation at Hallmark University junction along Shagamu-Benin expressway.
Sequel to the information, the DPO Ogbere Division mobilised his men in conjunction with men of Amotekun corps and moved to the scene.
Nigeriacrime.com learned that on sighting the security men, the hoodlums took to their heels while a getaway vehicle they parked quickly zoom off with some cables.
Other suspects were hotly chased and two amongst them were apprehended.
During interrogation, it was discovered that Festus Okoeguare was an escapee from White House Correctional Center located at Sapele road Benin city.
It was further revealed that the escapee was convicted of murder in 2010 and was sentenced to death by hanging. It was during the endsars protest that the prison was broken into and he escaped.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole has directed that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for proper profiling and onward transferred to the Correctional Center.
Recall that about 1,993 inmates escaped from custody in the jailbreaks that happened in Benin and Oko, Edo state.
The Nigerian Correctional Service said the inmates were convicted criminals serving terms for various criminal offenses and awaiting execution or standing trial for violent crimes.
This jailbreak occurred shortly after hoodlums attacked the prisons during the #EndSARS protest in the state.
