Property worth millions destroyed in Ibadan spare parts market, Kano Police Command

Property worth millions of naira was destroyed on Saturday at the Araromi spare parts market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital

NigeriaCrime.com gathered that the fire was caused by indiscriminate refuse burning within the market.

According to the Oyo State Fire Service that the fire incident, which started around 2 a.m. affected about forty-five (45) shops.

The General Manager of the State Fire Service, Rev. Canon Yemi Akinyinka, said that men of the command were able to quench the fire around 5 a.m. on Saturday.

He said: “Our men are at Araromi Market Agodi Gate since 2:30 a.m. where they are putting off the fire caused by indiscriminate refuse burning.”

“The fire was suppressed at 5:00 a.m. Cooling down operation is ongoing to suppress reignition. On my way for an on-the-spot assessment.”

“I cannot say specifically the number of shops now, you know it is an emergency. It started at night. About 45 shops.”

In a related development, the Kano State Police Command headquarters located in Bompai area of the state has been engulfed by a fire outbreak.

Nigeriacrime.com also learned that the inferno whose cause was yet to be ascertained affected parts of the administrative block of the command.

Confirming the incident, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna said the fire razed the first floor and administrative block of the command.

Although, SP Haruna was silent about the cause of the inferno but said no life was lost in the incident.

According to him, “Fire engulfed the first floor of Kano State Police Command’s headquarters Bompai administrative block.

“No life was lost and no injury was recorded. The fire was brought under control by firefighters,” he said.

SP Haruna also hinted that the State Deputy Governor, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna has since visited the scene of the incident to sympathize with NPF, the IGP, the AIG Zone 1 who was also present at the scene, CP Mamman Dauda, and officers and men of Kano Police Command, and on behalf of Kano State Government promise to assist.

“Offices razed by the inferno include; Provost Office, DC Finance and Admin Office, AC Admin Office, AC Operations Office, Finance Offices and PPRO’s Office among others. Command’s records are intact,” the police spokesperson, SP Haruna however stated.
