Robbery Suspects Killed By Police In Edo

A robbery suspect has been killed by operatives of the Edo State Police Command during a gun deal with the officers.

The development was conveyed to journalists on Thursday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, who also revealed that another suspect, Ahmed Ibrahim, aged 19, was arrested with arms.

Furthermore, Nwabuzor told newsmen that the operation was carried out by operatives of the Edo State Security Network, which he said was led by the Divisional Police Officer.

The spokesperson explained that the incident happened on January 4, 2023.

The statement read in part, “Police operatives attached to Ugbor Division, GRA, Benin City, Edo State, and the Edo State Security Network personnel, led by the Divisional Police Officer, on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, around 8pm, successfully engaged a robbery gang, arrested one, neutralised one, recovered one cut-to-size gun and two cartridges.

“The arrested suspect, Ahmed Ibrahim, aged 19, is currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, while the body of the deceased armed robber, whose name is yet unknown, has been deposited in the Stella Obasanjo Mortuary in the state.”

In another development, gunmen have shot dead a young man as they abducted another in Mosogar Community, Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The young man who was shot dead is Louis Saturday Agboma. He was shot at close range and left in a pool of his blood.

He bled to death on the way to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

It was learnt that the gunmen attempted to abduct the first victim at the entrance of his compound on his return from an outing, but he resisted their moves, and in the process, he was shot dead.

The one who was kidnapped is the son of one Mr Peter Akpoyibo.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the report in a text message to our correspondent in Warri.

The police image maker said, “Confirmed”, without providing details.
