Section of Ooni’s palace destroyed in fire outbreak

A building apartment inside the Palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi was late Friday gutted by fire.

Nigeria crime.com learned that the incident, which was said to occurred around 11:30 pm did not spread to other sections of the palace as the fire was curtailed within the building and was successfully extinguished.

The fire according to reports started after the electricity supply was restored to the palace.

Ooni’s spokesperson, Moses Olafare while confirming the incident, disclosed that the fire was triggered by a power surge which exploded through electrical appliances.

Olafare said the fire incident affected only a building within the courtyard and was quickly put out by combined efforts of the State Fire Service Department and that of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ile.

He said, “A building apartment within the courtyard of the Palace Of The Ooni Of Ife was at about 11:30 pm yesterday (Friday) engulfed in flames of fire incident triggered by a power surge which exploded through electrical appliances in the affected apartment.

“The inferno did not spread beyond the affected building located at a section of the palace premises as it was swiftly put off through the combined efforts of the Government Fire Service, OAU Fire Service and Palace Emergency Control Unit.

“No casualties, No injuries recorded, No cultural items lost. Thanks to the Almighty Olodumare”.

In a related development, several people were reportedly burnt to death as two vehicles collided in Ode-Omu town in Ayedaade local government area of Osun State.

Although the accident occurred on Friday evening, at the time of filing this report, it is not clear how many persons were involved in the accident.

Apart from the deceased victims, many people were also said to have sustained various degrees of injury.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that two vehicles had a head-on-head collision and the vehicles caught fire which resulted in many casualties.

Confirming the incident, Osun Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, spokesperson, Agnes Ogungbemi said one of the vehicles carried gas which exploded during the collision and resulted in a fire outbreak.

Her word; We are yet to ascertain the number of casualties, but all the injured victims have been taken to a hospital in the town for treatment.
