Shock As Calabar Landlord Commits Suicide

Shock gripped residents of Adak Uko Street, off Mbukpa Road in the Calabar South area of Cross River State as a landlord popularly known as Hello Daddy took his own life.

According to reports available to NIGERIACRIME, the incident happened on Thursday evening.

The landlord, whose real name and age were yet to be ascertained as at press time, was said to have been a rich man with a number of cars and houses in Calabar.

He was also an elder in the Mount Zion Church in Calabar, according to a source.

The source added that his lifeless body hung in his palour and a surging crowd of shocked neighbours and passersby were debarred from invading his apartment.

He was said to have been sick for a long time.

Young men from the neighborhood brought down the body after performing some traditional sacrifices.

At about 6.30pm, they brought out the rope with which he used to hang himself to the tarred road, cut it into pieces and poured palm wine while chanting some inaudible words.

All efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, were futile as her calls were left unattended to.

Meanwhile, the absence of a prosecution witness on Thursday stalled the trial of the Hilton Honors Hotel, Ile-Ife, Dr. Ramon Adedoyin and six of his workers.

Adedoyin, alongside Adedeji Adesola, Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwole Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem, and Adebayo Kunle, had been standing trial over the death of late Timothy Adegoke, a Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Counsel to the first defendant, K. Eleja, SAN, informed the court that the prosecution witness, a police operative, that was to testify was not in court because of his posting.

All the defendants were present in court.
