Supreme Court: Adeleke Affirmed As Osun Governor

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has won his case against the immediate-past governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, at the Supreme Court sitting in Abuja.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain was affirmed by the apex court on Tuesday.

The judgement followed an earlier decision by a three-member panel of the appellate court led by Mohammed Shuaibu, which affirmed his victory, nullifying the judgement of the election petition tribunal.

The election petition tribunal had in January this year nullified the governor’s victory.

In a video obtained online, NIGERIACRIME observed that there was a wild jubilation across the state, following the Supreme Court judgment.

Some civil servants were seen in the viral video chanting the name of the governor in jubilation.

Reacting to the judgment of the apex court, Adeleke dedicated his victory in the Supreme Court verdict to God.

He said, “This is a historic landmark in the history of Osun politics. Today is the day our God ordained to stand his authority as the owner and giver of power.

“Today is that moment when the will of the people ordained by God survived the anti-masses plot of powerful forces. We, therefore, celebrate God Almighty.

“We dedicate today’s victory to Him. State power is of God and he bestowed it on whomever he wishes. I will remain God’s driven, divinely inspired, I will govern with the fear of God. Our governorship is an affirmation that we are for the people, by the people.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared that Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party polled 403,371 votes to defeat then-incumbent, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, of the All Progressives Congress who got 375,027 votes.

But Oyetola and the APC rejected the result of the poll and headed for the tribunal.

The governorship election in the state was held on July 16, 2022.
