Tension As Gunmen Attack Media House In Rivers

There was tension in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State as yet-to-be-identified gunmen attacked the premises of a media house in Port Harcourt, Atlantic TV Network & Wish 99.5 FM, Ozuoba.

NIGERIACRIME gathered that the incident, which occurred around 9pm, led to the destruction of some equipment and property in the facility which houses the two media outfit owned by a member of the House of Representatives, Chinyere Igwe.

No life was lost during the deadly attack, the chairman of the media outfit said on Wednesday morning.

He also added that he immediately alerted the Police Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in Rivers state, adding that he also made a formal entry at the Ozuoba police division.

Igwe appealed to the youths to resist being used as agents of destruction by greedy and self-centered politicians and pay masters, who perceive opponents of their selfish interests as enemies that must be destroyed.

Contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she had yet to get an official report of the incident, but promised to find out from the Divisional Police Officer and give a feedback.

Igwe is a former member of the House of Representatives, representing Port Harcourt Constituency II, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State.

The lawmaker is also an ardent supporter of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
