2 killed as security personnel, bandits engage in gun battle in Benue

Two person have been killed during a gun between security operatives and bandits on Wednesday at Tse Gaagum village in Ukemberegya Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state.

Nigeriacrime.com gathered from a source in the area that the armed men who have been terrorising communities on that axis of the state stormed the village at about 4am, shooting sporadically to take people hostage and disposses them of their belongings.

But a member of the community was able to alert security personnel who stormed the community and engaged the gang in a gun fight.

He said, “the bandits stormed the village at about 4am on Wednesday and forcefully took away motorcycles and valuables belonging to some of the villagers.

“Luckily, a resident made a call to security personnel who raced to the area and succeeded in chasing them after a gun fight and in the process killed two of them and recovered a Bajaj motorcycle.”

Contacted the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Internal Affairs, Chief Joseph Har who confirmed the development commended the security operatives for their prompt response to the distress call.

Har said, “I got the information that security men in Logo who received distress call from residents of Tse Gaagum village in the early hours of today (Wednesday) shot two of the bandits who attacked the community. They also succeeded in recovering a Bajaj motorcycle belonging to one of the villagers.”

He said other items recovered from the gang included a locally fabricated AK-47 riffle with six live ammunitions, a matchet and assorted charms while the body of the gunmen had been recovered and deposited at the NKST hospital morgue in Ugba, Logo LGA.

The Adviser assured that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing suspects to ensure they were apprehended and brought to justice.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene was unsuccessful.
