At least 3,896 litres of stolen Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol have been recovered from suspected oil thieves in the Badagry area of Lagos State.
The recovery was done by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state.
Confirming this in a statement made available to journalists on Monday, the Public Relations Officer of the agency in the state, Olumide Abolurin, said the recovery happened on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
According to the agency’s image maker, the fuel was found in a bush at Epeme village, in the Olorunda Local Council Development Area of Badagry.

The spokesperson said, “On account of the 24-hour routine patrol, intelligence gathering, surveillance, monitoring of critical national assets and infrastructure, the corps’ operatives discovered petroleum products suspected to be stolen by economic saboteurs and kept in a bush path at Epeme village, in the Olorunda LCDA of Badagry, on Saturday, February 18, 2023, around 1.35 am during the wee hours.
“While carrying out the evacuation of the products mentioned above on the following day, Sunday, February 19, 2023, the corps’ operatives recovered about 23 sacks of about 100 litres each and 57 yellow kegs of about 28 litres each of Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol at the scene. The total quantity of products recovered at the Epeme village totalled about 3,896 litres of PMS.”
He continued that the exhibits recovered from the operation were taken to the corps’ command headquarters in Alausa for further interrogation as ordered by the state’s NSCDC commandant, Usman Alfadarai.
