66 suspected cultists, others nabbed in Plateau

66 suspects who allegedly carried out diverse criminal acts during the Sallah period are currently being investigated by the Plateau State Police Command.

Nigeriacrime.com learned that 14 machetes, eight daggers, a large number of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, six tricycles, four motorcycles and a bottle containing illicit substances were recovered from the arrested suspects.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Hassan Yabanet said that apart from the arrest of suspected cultists, armed robbers and others, there was also a recovery of arms and ammunition during the period.
He said, “I have invited you to brief you on the role of the Plateau State Police Command on the 2024 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations and the arrest of two notorious armed robbery suspects/recovery of arms and ammunition. Festive periods are usually characterized by fanfare and celebrations. However, in Plateau State, the good people of the state have always expressed their reservations whenever they are privileged to observe and celebrate any of the notable Muslim festivals.
“This is a result of the recurring attacks on law-abiding Muslim faithful whenever such events are celebrated by members of the inglorious Sara-Suka and other cult groups, street urchins and criminal elements.
Our strategic deployment paid off, as a total of 66 suspects were arrested at different locations within the State, and the following exhibits were recovered from them; 14 machetes, eight daggers, a large number of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, six tricycles, four motorcycles and a bottle containing illicit substances.
“On the 10th April 2024 at about 7 pm, one Laulau Jibrin ‘m’ of Zunzugut Mavo came to the Nigeria Police Force, Divisional Headquarters Wase, Wase LGA and reported that on 9th April 2024, at about 11 pm, some armed men came to his house at the same address and robbed him of his motorcycle. On the strength of the above complaint, Police Detectives attached to Wase Division in collaboration with Vigilantes swung into action and arrested two of the armed robbery suspects through credible intelligence.
“The suspects are; Musa Adamu and Sale Joga both males of Mavo Community in Wase Local Government Area. Exhibits recovered from them include; one AK-47 rifle loaded with three rounds of 7.62mm Ammunition. The suspects have been transferred to State CID Jos and are currently undergoing interrogations, and will soon be charged to court.”
The CP reiterated that “The Plateau State Police Command under my leadership will not tolerate any form of lawlessness. Parents and guardians are therefore enjoined to pay close attention to their children and wards as no lawbreaker will be spared. Meanwhile, all the suspects are undergoing interrogation and will be charged to court soonest.”
