Police investigating alleged drowning of military cadet in Abia hotel

The Abia State Police Command has commenced over the alleged drowning of an Air Force personnel in one of the foremost hotels (name withheld) in Umuahia, the state capital.

Nigeriacrime.com gathered that the swimming pool was said to be undergoing some renovations before the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Moureen Chinaka, said that the attention of the Central Police Station, CPS, Umuahia had been drawn to the incident, and an investigation had commenced.
A visited the said hotel located close to the Abia Seat of Power, the receptionist declined to comment on the matter.
According to social media reports, an Air Force cadet ( name withheld) reportedly died in a swimming pool of the said hotel.
The incident according to the reports occurred Tuesday night.
A source which pleaded not be be mentioned, was quoted as saying that the deceased went to the facility to swim at a time the pool was undergoing renovation.
The swimming pool was said to be undergoing some renovations according to the source.
The deceased’s body was said to have been recovered later by men of the Abia State Fire Service and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, where it was confirmed dead.

When contacted, a source at the hospital which also pleaded anonymity said the deceased was already dead before the corpse was brought into the hospital.
He said the cadet was merely confirmed dead as he had died about five hours before they brought him to the hospital, adding that there was nothing that could have been done by the hospital to revive him.
He was said to have disappeared from the pool at about 6:37 pm on Tuesday but was recovered around 9:58 pm.
Meanwhile, a security source who pleaded not to be mentioned said that the Air Force cadet was on a pass before visiting the hotel.
The source wondered how the deceased could have allegedly jumped into the swimming pool which is very close to a bar and nobody noticed he needed help until he was drowned.
According to the source, only a thorough investigation would unravel what truly transpired.
