Over 20 motorcycle have being set ablaze by angry youth at the Isolo area of Lagos state following a ghastly that claimed a life.
According to an eye witness the incident which happened around Jakande Estate, occurred after a rider plying a one way route reportedly knocked down a pedestrian who died immediately.
This occurrence prompted the youth in the area to hijack and set ablaze any motorcycle in sight.
Reacting to the incident, the Lagos State Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin told Channels Television that the Divisional Police Officer in the area Folorunsho Gabriel responded to the emergency immediately, rescuing the suspect from the mob attack and evacuating the corpse from the scene.
“The Police arrived at the scene on time and rescued the motorcycle rider from lynching. The Police immediately took the rider to the hospital for treatment and evacuated the pedestrian. Before the Police arrived back at the scene, a mob was already burning the motorcycles left behind by the fleeing riders,” he added.

“The Lagos State Police Command condemns jungle justice in very strong terms. Anyone found engaging in such would be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
Recalling, that the Lagos state government banned okada riders from operating in six local governments’ areas – Ikeja, Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Surulere, Apapa and Lagos Mainland Local Governments on the 1st of June 2022.
The commissioner For information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said There were much complains from the doctor saying people were coming for Okada-related emergency.
“About 1,712 accidents have been recorded in Lagos in the first quarter of this year. Out of this figure, about 45 percent; to be precise, 767 of the accidents were caused by Okada, and it is shocking to know that about 54 percent of the victims are between the ages of 30 and 39. These are our able-bodied young people who are getting cut down like that all because they mounted okada,” he says.
Also, on Tuesday there was pandemonium in Idi Araba has officials of Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, also known as Task Force had a clashed with the Okada rider.
