Ekiti Police Drag Man Caught With Weed To Court

A 27-year-old man, identified as Lasisi Dada, has been dragged before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly in possession of Indian hemp.

The defendant was arraigned by the Ekiti State Police Command on Thursday.

According to claims by the police prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade, the defendant committed the offence on May 12 at about 10 am, in Ado-Ekiti.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant had in his possession five wraps of weed suspected to be Indian hemp.

Okunade told the court that the offence that contravenes Section 5(b) of the Indian Hemp Act 1966.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him, while his counsel, Mr Stephen Ademuagun, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.O. Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum and subsequently adjourned the case until June 2 for a hearing.

Meanwhile, the uncoordinated activities of the Taskforce of Motorcycle Riders Association in Ekiti State have taken another dimension as an Okada Rider beat up a government official on Thursday.

It was gathered that an Okada rider was intercepted by the task force official at the popular Okesa Flyover in Ado-Ekiti for the daily ticket payment.

The unknown Taskforce official tried to remove the ignition key from the Rider’s bike with force but the latter stood his ground, leading to a heavy exchange of blows.

The motorcyclist eventually overpowered the task force official and beat him mercilessly before a few members of the public intervened to end the fracas.

It was learnt that the incident caused a pause of commercial activities in the area but normalcy has been restored as of the time of filing this report.
