A man, Wasiu Oriyomi, has been arraigned in Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a 7-year-old girl.
The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by Justice Rahman Oshodi of an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.
The defendant, who was charged for defilement, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Oshodi adjourned the case until February 22, 2024, for the commencement of trial.
Earlier, the state counsel, Ms Inumidun Solarin, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence in August 2022 on Oludele Street, Ikola Odunsi in Ikeja.
Solarin alleged that the defendant defiled the survivor (name withheld) by having unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Oriyomi risks life imprisonment if convicted.

In another development, no fewer than 10 persons have been confirmed dead in an auto crash on the popular Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
It was learnt that the incident occurred at about 5am on Tuesday around the Kara Turning, towards the Interchange area of the highway.
The spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Command in Ogun State, Florence Okpe confirmed the development to Channels TV.
She confirmed that at least seven other persons were injured in the crash that involved two vehicles, an ash-coloured Toyota Hiace Bus with number plate, FKY898YF and an orange-coloured Iveco Truck Tipper.
According to her, injured victims have been taken to Famobis Hospital for medical attention while the dead bodies were deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu.
“The Sector Commander, Anthony Uga was pained over the fatal crash that could have been avoided if necessary caution was put in place.
“He also emphasized that drivers should endeavour to take a 15-minute rest for every four-hour drive because fatigue has been a major cause of road traffic crashes”, Okpe added.
