Alleged Theft: Court Remands 24-year-old Butcher

A 24-year-old butcher Bashar Adam, was on Thursday remanded by a Kafanchan magistrates’ court in Kaduna State over alleged theft.

The court ordered that Adam, whose address was withheld, be remanded at a correctional facility.

The defendant is in court for suspected theft and mischief, following a complaint laid by one Badamasi Ibrahim.

Ibrahim brought the incident to the attention of the NSCDC’s prosecutor, Marcus Audu, at the court on October 16.

Audu said the defendant had stolen the truck’s wiring and vandalized the complainant’s vehicle, which was parked on Magajiya Street.

He alleged that members of a vigilante group apprehended the defendant and handed him over to the Civil Defence Corps personnel.

He told the court that the offence contravened the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Michael Bawa, ordered the defendant to be remanded in a correctional centre.

Bawa adjourned the matter until Nov. 21 for a hearing.

Meanwhile, the Director, Zamfara State Fire Service, Alhaji Abubakar Jibo Dauran, has lamented that so many negative factors cause fire outbreaks that consume lives and properties in the State.

Addressing newsmen in Gusau, the State capital, Dauran explained that the common causes of fire outbreaks are the wrong usage of candles and cooking gas, which can consume the whole building.

“We have been advising people to always get fire fighting equipment in their homes so that they can handle the issue very easily”, he added.

According to him, the wrong usage of gas cookers mostly caused fire outbreaks.

He advised people to always ensure their cookers are off before going to bed or leaving their houses.

He also advised people to always turn off their electrical appliances before going to bed to avoid inferno.

He further stated that the state fire service personnel are always ready to mobilize immediately to the scene, saying that the Service is not revenue generation oriented, calling on Zamfara State residents to always have fire fighting equipment at their disposal.
