Bandits attack Zamfara market, kill three

Three persons have been reportedly killed by bandits who invaded and attacked Gidan Goga community market in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

NigeriaCrime.com learned that the gang of bandits stormed the market which is situated 7 kilometres off Kaura Namoda-Shinkafi road, on Wednesday evening, November 2, 2022, firing at traders

A brave vigilante shot dead two of the bandits in an attempt to repel the attack.

Residents in the community disclosed that three men who attempted to escape were reportedly killed by the bandits.

According to a trader who spoke on the condition of anonymity, “When the armed criminals arrived, they opened fire on traders, and everyone was scrambling out of the market to safety.”

“However, a vigilante wielding a dane gun fired several shots at the assailants, killing two of them instantly. The vigilante quickly changed position and continued to fire shots at the advancing gang of criminals even when some of his colleagues had withdrawn.

The armed men called for reinforcement and overpowered the vigilantes. They flooded the deserted market looted goods and set dozens of motorcycles ablaze.

“Some military uniforms and other goods were recovered after the armed gang had withdrawn. One of the slain traders was from Kaura Namoda town and his burial has been scheduled for Thursday morning,” the trader said.

One of the traders killed during the attack has been identified as Malam Bello, the owner of glass business.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 21 children have been abducted by a terrorist gang at farmland in Mairuwa community, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The incident happened on Sunday at about 12:30 pm, the Katsina Police Command spokesman SP Gambo Isah disclosed on Wednesday.

The abductees, he said, are aged between 15 and 18 years. He added that the command has been making efforts to rescue them.

“Yes, we got the report and we are working to rescue them. The children among them are 21, between 15 and 18 years,” he added.

“The owner of the farm was not around when the incident happened.”

The terrorists are demanding the sum of N30 million as ransom or direct discussion with the owner of the farm where the victims were working.

“The terrorists reached out to parents of some of the victims to bargain on the ransom, according to them, they will not collect any amount less than 30 million naira or direct access to the owner of the farm,” he said

They further stated that they had already made their investigations and found out that the owner of the farm is rich.
