DSS Arrests CBN Deputy Governor

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Obiora.

It was gathered that Obiora was apprehended following allegations of financial mismanagement under the suspended CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The arrest of Obiora, who is the Deputy Governor of the apex bank in charge of economic policy, comes on the heels of an ongoing probe of CBN under the stewardship of Emefiele.

Recall that Emefiele has been in the custody of the DSS since June 10, 2023, a day after President Bola Tinubu removed him from office.

In July, Tinubu appointed a special investigator, Jim Obazee, to oversee the probe of the activities of the apex bank under Emefiele.

DSS and CBN spokespersons, Dr Peter Afunanya and Dr Isa Abdulmumin, respectively, have yet to respond to inquiry.

In another development, residents of Ojo Street in the Aregbe area of Abeokuta South, Ogun State, have nabbed one Oduwole Abayomi vandalising an electric cable worth N779,000 on August 22, 2023.

The 32-year-old suspect was said to have entered a compound belonging to Adeyemi Olukayode and vandalised some newly installed electric cables in the house.

It was gathered that some residents of the community had sighted the suspect while scaling over the fence to gain entrance into the compound.

A source in the community who did not want to be mentioned because he was not authorized to speak for the community said the residents jointly pursued the suspect when he came out with a sack after some minutes.

The source said, “We were waiting for him to come out. And when he did, he was with a sack, so we alerted the others, pursued him, and apprehended him.”

Speaking, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect had been charged in court.

“After the suspect was handed over to a patrol team, we have already charged him to court,” the police spokesperson said.
