Emefiele Charged For Alleged Economic Sabotage

The Federal Government will today charge the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, to court over alleged economic sabotage-related offences.

The former CBN boss will be arraigned at a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Recall that his trial was aborted about 24 hours ago.

A notice for his trial before Justice Hamza Muazu indicates that the ex-CBN Governor will be docked along with one Ramalan Yaro.

A registrar with the court, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that Emefiele would be brought before the court this morning for his plea of guilty or not guilty to be taken.

Similarly, one of the lawyers in his defence team, Maxwell Opara, confirmed that the notice of arraignment had been served on the former CBN Governor for him to appear in court.

The former CBN governor will be produced in court by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Matthew Burkaa, who signed an undertaking to bring him for trial while being granted bail by Justice Olukayode Adegbola Adeniyi, also of the FCT High Court.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspects over the clash between two rival cult groups.

DSP Bright Edafe, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the command had arrested four suspects.

One person was allegedly killed during the clash on Monday night in the university town of Ozoro, in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was learnt that the rival cult groups, suspected to be members of Eiye Confraternity and Vikings, reportedly in a shootout for several hours.

The incident led to the abrupt closure of all commercial activities as traders and business owners in the community closed shops to avoid being victims of looters who may want to cash out in the melee.

A community leader who pleaded anonymity confirmed that only one person was killed and that the community is currently in apprehensive mood.

According to him: “There was a cult clash on Monday night, the cult people attacked themselves. The information available is that there was a clash between Eiye and Vikings.

“They were using weapons and firing themselves. One dead and four suspects were arrested.”
