Family Demands Justice As Driver Allegedly Kills Boss

A driver, Idowu Adekanye, has been accused of killing his boss, an Ondo-based businessman, Omololu Olowosoyo.

According to reports reaching NIGERIACRIME, the family of the deceased businessman dragged the suspect before a magistrate’s court in Akure, the state capital.

Also, Olowosoyo’s family petitioned the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 17, Akure, Ondo State, AIG Abimbola Sokoya, to conduct a discreet investigation into his murder.

According to the family’s lawyer, A.K. Akinbuluma, in the petition, some of the suspects connected to the businessman’s killing were still “gallivanting around” in the community.

The lawyer said, “What is more worrisome to our clients is that families of the suspects who have been arrested in connection with the murder case are now approaching the police officers of the anti-kidnapping unit in Akure for the administrative bail of the suspects, thereby frustrating fairness and justice of the case.

“As a minister in the temple of justice, we have advised our clients to remain calm and that discreet and purposeful investigation will be carried out by your office, hence this petition.

“Mr Omololu Olowosoyo was the breadwinner of his family with many dependents, four children, and other dependants.”

It was alleged that the deceased was kidnapped and killed by his driver, Adekanye, in collaboration with some other criminal elements around 10pm on January 14, 2023, along Ore-Ode Irele Road, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The driver was arraigned on four counts of conspiracy, kidnapping, and murder.

During the court sitting, the police prosecutor, Taiwo Oniyere, informed the court that the defendant conspired with others at large to kidnap his boss when he accompanied him on a business trip to Osogbo, Osun State.

The defendant was also alleged to have murdered the victim by hitting him with a stick and strangulating him.

The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravenes sections 6(b) and 2(a) and (b) of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping 2010 and Section 316 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37 Vol. I Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

He prayed the court to remand the defendant in the Olokuta Custodial Centre pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

However, the defence counsel, D.S Akinbo, opposed the application, saying the case was not ripe for hearing as his client was served on the day of arraignment.
