One of the kidnapped victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack, Hassan Uthman has said that the government has failed in providing security for the lives and property of citizens. They have failed to rescue us.”
“Since the Federal government has failed to rescue them for the past four months, the international community should come in and rescue the remaining victims who were in a pitiable condition in the forest.”
Speaking recently in an interview immediately after he was rescued, Hassan Uthman thanked Almighty Allah for regaining freedom after spending four months in captivity.
Recounting his ordeal in captivity Hassan said “we were initially, sleeping on the bare ground in the thick forest before they were provided with mats.”
‘When the rain started; they erected makeshift shelters for us. They fed us according to their capacity. At times, they even slaughtered cattle and sheep for us. Even yesterday they slaughtered a cow and we ate; we thank Allah.”
“Because of the government’s attitude, they were angered and they thoroughly beat us. We were severely flogged and they say that was just the beginning. I pity those still in captivity because they are thoroughly tortured by the terrorists.
Hassan, last Friday some of our relations attempted to rescue us but the government did not allow them to proceed on the journey.
Our relations made a second attempt on Monday and were successful in rescuing three of us from captivity.”
It will be recalled that terrorists had abducted over 60 train passengers in March 2022 but released the Managing Director of the Bank of Agriculture a few days later. Last month June 11, eleven of the victims were released by the terrorists. Among those released were five males and six females whose names were given as Amina Ba’aba Mohammed, Rashida Yusuf Busari, Jessey John, Hannah Ajewole, Amina Jibril, Najib Mohammed Dahiru, Hassan Aliyu, Peace A, Danjuma Sa’idu, Gaius Gambo and a young boy whose name was not revealed. They also released a pregnant woman who was abducted alongside other victims.
