Gunmen abduct pregnant woman, husband, son in Bauchi Community

Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a pregnant woman, her husband, son, and another at Rafin Ciyawa village in Ningi LGA of Bauchi State.

The four victims were reportedly kidnapped when some gunmen invaded the village on the night of Thursday, 28th July at about 2 am during which they abducted a pregnant woman, her husband, their baby, and another person.

According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen shot sporadically when they invaded the village scaring people away before abducting the victims.

Executive Chairperson of Ningi LGA, Mamuda Hassan Tabla who spoke on the development narrated that the unknown gunmen abducted an Ibo businessman, his nursing wife, and her baby as well as his sales boy.

However, Tabla added that 24 hours after the abduction, the kidnappers released the nursing mother and the baby after some amount was paid but are holding onto the businessman, demanding the sum of N10m before his release.

Tabla appealed to concerned authorities to come to their aid to make them live in peace and do their legitimate businesses.

According to vigilantes, when the suspected bandits attacked Tudun Wadan Jada formerly known as Jimari Jauro-Bano, to abduct residents, an alarm was raised.

The youths from the village and surrounding villages immediately mobilise themselves and resisted them and they were unable to go with the abducted people.

But the suspected bandits, seeing that their mission had failed, then opened fire on the large number of the youths that resisted them and killed four of them while three sustained varying degrees of injuries.

A resident of the area who preferred anonymity, said, “The attackers arrived in the community around 11:45 pm on Thursday.

“They came on motorcycles and when people raised the alarm they started shooting sporadically and fled to the bush. Unfortunately, four people were killed in the process.”

Chairman of the LGA, Yusuf Garba, said that the bandits stormed New Tudun Wadan Jada, to abduct the hamlet head but when people raised alarm, they abandoned their mission and fled.

“The gunmen attacked the area through the largest border forest with Taraba, Gombe, and Plateau States, adding that security operatives are on their trail.

Garba said a security council meeting with the State security chiefs and the Secretary to the State Government has been held to discuss the matter while security operatives have been deployed to the area.

Bauchi State is one state in the North-East geopolitical zone that has suffered severe attacks from gunmen and bandits.
