How Police Extort, Plant Exhibit On Me – Rivers Man

A man, identified as Daddy Geoffrey, alleged that some operatives of the Rivers State Police Command planted Indian hemp on his body while conducting a search in order to extort N8,000 from him.

The Port Harcourt-based man, made this known in a post on social media in which he tagged the Force Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police, Adejobi Olumuyiwa.

According to Geoffrey, the incident happened at Obiri-Ikwere junction in Port Harcourt over the weekend when he was on his way to a friend’s party.

On encountering the uniformed men, Geoffrey alleged that the Police searched him the first time and found nothing on him but that one of the Police officers insisted he was a Yahoo boy, which prompted him to present his identity card to them to clear the doubt about his source of income.

Furthermore, he was asked to sit on the floor and another search was conducted on him, in which the police officer brought out a parcel of India Hemp, the victim narrated.

The victim said one of the officers immediately slapped him.

He further said he was handcuffed and directed to pay his driver to leave while he was made to pay the sum of N8,000 as bail since that was the only money he could access at that time.

He called on the police authority to intervene in the matter.

In his response, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa in a chat with one of the mediums in Port Harcourt, assured that the Force Headquarters will ask the Rivers State Command to take up the matter.

CSP Olumuyiwa said he will personally follow up on the matter critically and professionally for the sake of justice.

In another development, five students reportedly died of suspected diphtheria in the Jamaare local government area of Bauchi State.

The Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, (BSPHCDA), Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, who disclosed this on Wednesday said the affected schools in the local government area have been closed to avoid more outbreaks.

Mohamed said out of the 28 suspected cases recorded so far in Jamaare, two others returned positive.

He, however, did not disclose the name of the affected schools nor reveal when the infection was detected

Mohammed described the deaths of the students as unfortunate adding that vaccination would be given to prevent further outbreak of the disease.
