Kidnappers collect N5 million ransom, release victims

Three kidnapped victims who were abducted by gunmen along Oke Ako road , Ajoni local council development area in Ekiti state have been released from captivity after the payment of five million naira.

Recall that the victims are relatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officer who was killed by the gunmen last weekend. They were traveling in the same vehicle with the deceased when the kidnappers struck.

NigeriaCrime.com gathered that the gunmen who had initially demanded 30 million naira from the family of the three victims released the captives after collecting the five million naira ransom.

The victims , who were released in the forest around Ayede-Ekiti in Oye local government, are, younger brother to the slain NSCDC officer, his five years old child and an 11 years old child.

According to a family source,” They were released after the family paid about N 5 million in the forest in Ayede axis. Apart from that, they collected N100,000 for recharge cards, sachets of milk, and alcoholic drinks. They added these conditions on Tuesday as part of the requirements for their release.

The Corps Commander, Ekiti State Amotekun Corps, Brig. Gen. Joe Komolafe (retd) confirmed that the three persons who were whisked away by the kidnappers on Saturday had been released.

” Our men were in the forests in search of the kidnappers and the three persons. Good, they have been released, ” he said.

Also, Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, said, “Immediately the incident occurred, the Command set up special operatives to go after the hoodlums and ensure the safe release of those held hostage. The Command had been working with the family members through the Area Commander and DPO in charge of that jurisdiction.

“The joint operations that include the police and other security agents as well as the Amotekun, not excluding their family members have yielded this positive result. Meanwhile, the command is not aware of any ransom paid,” the police spokesperson said.

In a related development, the abducted Plateau council boss has regained freedom.

The Executive Chairman of Kanke Local Government Council, Hon. Henry Jan Gotip who was abducted on Tuesday 6th September 2022 from his home at Kwang has regained freedom from his abductors unhurt.

Although the Police have not confirmed the development multiple sources say, Hon. Henry Gotip has since reunited with his family.
