Ogun Man In Police Net For Vandalising IBEDC Transformer

The Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 28-year -old man, identified as Adewole Adekunle for allegedly vandalising and stealing parts of a power transformer belonging to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

NIGERIACRIME learnt that the transformer belong to Showo community, Kobape area, on the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway, Ogun State.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state, SP Omolola Odutola, which was made available on Saturday, the suspected thief was arrested at about 4:30 a.m on Friday.

The police image maker said Adekunle was apprehended following a complaint by villagers who hinted to the police about the vandals’ activities in the community.

The statement partly reads, “Following this information, the DPO of Owode Egba Police Division in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state, CSP Popoola Olasunkanmi, led his men to swiftly respond to the distress call, leading to the arrest of one Adewole Adekunle of No 28, Eleko, Ajah, Lagos.

“Other members of the gang fled into the nearby bush while abandoning one Volkswagen bus with registration number EKY 202 YG Lagos State along with its document. Items such as an Itel phone, one digger, one chisel, 11 big spanners, 25 small bolts, 11 big spanners, one big pincher, a polythene bag containing different clothes, and one big vandalized transformer have been recovered from the crime scene.

“Our men currently expediting efforts to track down other members of the notorious vandals and arrest them for possible prosecution.”

The statement added, “The Commissioner of Police CP Abiodun Alamutu has been briefed and has ordered that the culprit be charged to court as a show of deterrence to other intending vandals warning scavengers to steer clear of government properties otherwise face the full wrath of the law.”
