Ondo Court Sentences Guards To Death By Hanging For Killing Couple

Two guards, Ayuba Idris and Tasur Abubakar, have been convicted and sentenced to hang to death by an Ondo State High Court in Akure for killing a couple.

It was gathered that the convicts killed one Kwaku Kwakye and his wife, Tope, in 2019 at their residence at Ojomo Akintan Estate, along Ilesa-Owo Expressway, Akure, the state capital.

That led to their arrest by the Ondo State Police Command.

Prior to their arrest, the convicts were security guards of the deceased, the police stated.

The duo were said to have killed the couple and fled.

They were charged to court on five counts bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery and murder and the matter had been on since 2019.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Williams Olamide, said the prosecution had not successfully proved that the convicts were guilty of counts one and two and discharged and acquitted them.

But the court sentenced them to seven years imprisonment on count three which bordered on conspiracy.

The court also found the convict guilty of counts four and five and sentenced them to death by hanging.

Meanwhile, a Magistrate Court II sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, has remanded the alleged killers of Mr and Mrs Kehinde Fatinoye and their son, Oreoluwa, in 2022.

The prime suspect, Lekan Adekanbi, confessed that he and his gang members; Ahmed Odetola and Waheed Adeniyi, slaughtered the family after forcing them to transfer N1,102,000.

Adekanbi, the driver to the wife of the late Kehinde, said he organised his fellow cultists to rob the family because they refused to grant his request for a loan.

Chief Magistrate Esther Idowu, in her ruling on Wednesday, ordered that the suspects should be remanded in prison for 60 days, pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution.

The court ruled that the trio be remanded at the Oba correctional centre while their accomplices, Temitope Fadairo Temitope and Adenike Adekanbi Adenike, were sent to the Ibara Correctional Centre.
